Powder for 45-70.
Remington has a 45-70 round with a 405 grain jacketed bullet. It's safe, accurate, and for the most part, available where ever you buy every other rifle ammo. Winchester has a similar round. Avoid Buffalo Bore, as their ammo is loaded to a much higher pressure for use in modern rifles. 01-05-2014, 03:38 #6.

According burn rate charts, some have Accurate 1680 closer to the 4227s than the 4198s, while others have it closer to the 4198s than the 4227s. There is no reason why it wouldn't produce impressive velocities in the 45-70 ... Cast boolits typically use faster powders than jacketed bullets do due to their greater ease in passage through the barrel. 4320 is a couple of steps faster than 4350. Powders burn best within their own particular pressure range. The 45-70 would not be able to achieve 4350's ideal pressure level with a cast boolit.

The .454 Casull had a load of 28.5 gr of H110 for a 300 gr JFP bullet, but showing 44.2K of pressure. The .475 Linebaugh had a loading of 27.0 gr for a 385 gr cast LRNFP at 45.3K pressure.
